Give Thanks
By Skywing Knights // December 30, 2020
Hi everyone!
I hope you’re all enjoying your day thus far. I’ve been rather quiet this month on here, for which I apologize. However, as promised, I did want to bring you all a recap of what I did to meet President Nelson’s challenge to “Give Thanks” on social media earlier in the month of November.
This challenge was really humbling and inspiring to me. If you haven’t tried it, I encourage you to do so. In short, for a week, you post each day one thing you’re grateful for. Here were my 7 things, along with my accompanying thoughts:
1. My Family
A little late to the game (my apologies). But I’d like to take up the prophet’s challenge to #GiveThanks. Today, I’d like to give thanks for my family (some pictured here – I need to dig more for photos of everyone!) I’m so blessed that they’re mine. They’ve given me so much – far more than I can ever give in return.
2. My Dogs
Giving thanks today for my dogs! Every single one of them means the world to me because every day, they teach me about unconditional love. #GiveThanks
3. Friends
I rarely feel worthy of the treasured friendships that I have, because they are that magnificently wonderful to me. My friends bless me every day with their kindness, their patience, and their love (so much so I can’t fit everyone into this post!). I’m not sure how I got so lucky, which is why I must #GiveThanks.
4. Traveling
I am so grateful for the ability to travel. There’s so much to see, to do, and experience in this beautiful world. I’m grateful for the technology that allows me to see so much more than I ever could if I had been born in an earlier era and connect with people all over the world. I love that because of these technologies, I can have two “homes” on opposite sides of the world – which I love oh so dearly and am blessed to have. #GiveThanks
5. The Drive to Create
I love that human beings have the Drive to Create. To me, it’s a divinely inherited quality – one that inspires us to make beautiful art – and in so many diverse forms that we can all enjoy and share! My personal drive to create gives me the desire to craft, to take photos, to do make up and hair, to cosplay, and to write, all of which make my life that much more richer and that much more filled with joy. How I love to create!

6. Book of Mormon and the Plan of Salvation
I am blessed every second of every day because of this book. I’ve read it cover to cover, each and every page. Its divine message of truth allows me to live my fullest life. It allows me to know that despite all the many things in the cosmos that the Great Creator of all things knows me and loves me and has a plan for me – The Plan of Salvation. The knowledge of the Plan of Salvation allows me to make sense of life every day. Knowing things that happen are not random, that they’re there so that I may grow, allows me to make the most of every moment in my life. Because of the Plan, I have my agency and can choose how I want to live my life.
Furthermore, it gives me guidance and helps me recognize what’s most important to me. It allows me to set goals and gives me peace, knowing that one day, I CAN live with my loved ones again, forever sealed together for the eternities. I am forever humbled by this book, which lets me know that I am, and the whole world is, loved by a loving, kind, gracious, and eternal Heavenly Father, who anxiously looks to help us find our way to happiness and our way back home.

7. Jesus Christ
Where would I be without Jesus Christ? Christ is the Prince of Peace, Lord of Lords, King of Kings, the Son of God, the Light of the World… He is my Savior. He is my Redeemer. And He is my elder Brother. Without Him, I wouldn’t be here. Without Him, I would have no hope. I would have no joy without Him. All I am and all I will be, I thank Him for.

A Balm to the Soul
When I started this challenge, I decided I wanted to map out who and what I’d include in this 7 day Give Thanks challenge. I quickly realized though that finding only “7” items would be impossible. Why? Because I have a multitude a blessings – for more than just 7! We all do! Now I’m a planner and I like to sort things out prior to starting things. But I have a feeling that most people who took up this challenge, as the days went by, realized the same thing. There’s too many things for us to list. It made me realize how blessed and fortunate we all are, even during trying times. And knowing that, recognizing that – that brings peace. It is a balm to the soul.
If you’re having a difficult time in your life right now, try out this challenge. Find the blessings in your life and give thanks. I know it will bring you peace, just as it did me.
Till next time,
~Skywing
PS. Here’s a photo of my other adorable, lovable dog. Can’t forget about him! <3
