What types of photography does Skywing specialize in?
Skywing specializes in Portrait, Cosplay, and Architecture/Landscape photography.
How long has Skywing been doing photography?
Skywing has been doing photography for over 10 years. She first started to do photography as part of her film training during college, and during her early photography years, she worked to assist others in their photography work. For years, Skywing primarily kept her photography work as purely a hobby, but recently, she has opened her doors for private photo shoots.
What sort of equipment does Skywing use?
Skywing uses a Nikon Z6II (her big camera) and a Panasonic Lumix G7 (her tiny camera!) to take her photos. At times, she will use various lighting equipment to assist her in getting the right shot, such as light stands, light wands, and reflectors.
The equipment used during on-location shoots is heavily dependent on the look Skywing will be going for, the location itself, and the time of day during which the photo shoot will take place.
What sort of editing software does Skywing use?
Skywing primarily uses Adobe Lightroom to edit her photos, but will also sometimes do touch ups and special effects work with Portrait Pro and Adobe Photoshop.
I want to hire Skywing to take my photos. How do I do that and how does it work?
First, start by submitting a request via the form below. Once Skywing receives your request, she will reach out to you to discuss logistics, including where and when the photo shoot will take place, who will be involved, and what your goals are with the photo shoot. Once all of this is confirmed, Skywing will send you a calendar confirmation for your scheduled photo shoot.
We recommend arriving to your photo shoot 15-20 minutes early. Skywing will also arrive early and prior to the start of your photo shoot, you will be asked to sign a contract outlining the details of the photo shoot, including the expectations of the photographer and subject, as well as the deliverables. Then you and Skywing will proceed with your photo shoot!
After your session with Skywing, you will receive a contact sheet featuring the unedited photos taken during your session with Skywing and you will be asked to select the photos you would like Skywing to edit. Once Skywing receives your listed selection of photos, she will begin working on your photos. Upon completion and payment, Skywing will send you your completed photos.
Where is Skywing based and how far will Skywing travel to do a photo shoot?
Skywing is based in the greater Washington, DC metropolitan area.
The distance Skywing will travel is heavily dependent on the client’s needs and capabilities, as well as Skywing’s own availability.
What forms of payment does Skywing accept?
Skywing accepts either Cash or Venmo as forms of payment.
I want something different than the packages listed above with my session with Skywing. Is that possible?
Yes. Please indicate that you are looking for something else than what the above packages list in the request form below and Skywing will reach out to you to discuss options.
Is there any subject matter that Skywing will not shoot?
Skywing will not shoot sexually explicit material or nudity of any sort. Skywing will also not shoot material that denigrates others, including any groups of people, individuals (public or private), political parties or factions, or religions. Skywing will also not shoot material with backgrounds that have printed profane language.
Where does Skywing take photos?
Skywing takes photos primarily on location and it is the responsibility of the client to secure said location (meaning clients are responsible for making sure photos can be taken at their location of choice). However, for portrait photography, specifically headshots, Skywing does have the capability to shoot in her own mini-studio setting.
Skywing is open to shooting photos in most locations that are in safe areas.
For on-location photo shoot sessions, unless they are taking place during an event or convention that Skywing will already be attending, clients are responsible for covering Skywing’s travel expenses. Clients are also responsible for covering any fees for admission into locations or any location usage fees.
I love the location of a photo that I saw on Skywing's website. Can we shoot there?
That typically depends on the client. It is the responsibility of the client to secure locations (and at times admission for both the models and Skywing into locatinos) for their photo shoots with Skywing.
Skywing does not reserve locations.
What series and source mediums is Skywing familiar with when it comes to Cosplay Photography?
When it comes to Cosplay Photography, Skywing is familiar with series and subjects from DC and Marvel Comics, 07 Ghost, Attack on Titan, BLEACH, Boys Over Flowers, CLAMP series, D. Gray-man, D.N. Angel, Death Note, Disney works, Durarara, various Final Fantasy games, Free! Eternal Summer, Fruits Basket, Fullmetal Alchemist, Harry Potter, Haruhi Suzumiya, Hetalia, Inuyasha, Kingdom Hearts, Makoto Shinkai works, My Hero Academia, Nabari no Ou, Ouran High School Host Club, Pokemon, Romeo X Juliet, Sailor Moon, Skip Beat, Soul Eater, Studio Ghibli works, Sword Art Online, Uta No Prince Sama, Vampire Knight, Various WEBTOON series, Yu-Gi-Oh!, and much more!
So even if you don’t see the series you’d like to ask Skywing to photograph for, still, ask, as Skywing is open to most series and source mediums when it comes to Cosplay Photography.
Can Skywing take photos of those under the age of 18?
Yes, HOWEVER, there are stipulations. Skywing will do sessions with those under 18, but they may only occur in the presence of the subjects’ legal guardian(s) or caretakers, who must be present for the entirety of the photo shoot. Additional signed forms of consent may also be required.
This holds true regardless of if Skywing is contracted to do a private shoot or a shoot open to the public.
Is there a limit to the number of models Skywing will work with in one session?
No. However, each package only comes with a certain number of deliverable photos in total. For that reason, Skywing highly encourages that if you have multiple people you want to work with in the session, that you select a longer shoot time with a larger number of photo deliverables included.
Skywing will not do the negotiating in regards to the number of photos per model per shoot. She will instead defer to the word of the one providing payment for the selection of photos (the main point of contact). For that reason, she highly encourages parties to predetermine within your group how many photos each person will be entitled to of the package before the shoot occurs.
I am hosting a Cosplay Meet Up photo shoot and would like Skywing to be the photographer. Does Skywing offer any packages on that scale?
It depends. If your goal is rather large in scale, reach out to Skywing via the form below and she will reach out to discuss various options.
I want to shoot at night! Are there any additional charges?
Yes. This is to cover the extra work required to light the subject in the dark. Clients desiring to schedule a shoot outside around which sunset occurs at some point or at a time after sunset will be responsible for at least one Night Shoot Lighting Assist(ant) Fee, which covers either an On-Hand Lighting Assistant or, in the event that no Lighting Assistant is used, the time and work it takes for lighting equipment to be carried to the location of the shoot and set up by Skywing. The rate of these fees is $5/15 minutes at events, and for on location shoots, the fee will be a custom amount dependent on the location.
For night shoots, does Skywing prefer to shoot with a Lighting Assistant or does Skywing prefer to shoot using lights? Can I request one over the other?
Technically, Skywing likes to shoot with both! Though she typically does not shoot with both at the same time. Skywing shoots at night in ways that best suit the needs of the shoot in question. To her, it’s not that one is particularly better than the other. They simply accomplish lighting a setting and subject in different ways.
That said, Lighting Assistants often have the added benefit of moving far more quickly in the event that lights need to be adjusted, changed, or moved. (And if Skywing has to adjust the lights, Clients’ shoot time typically can not be paused for those adjustments). For that reason, Skywing does not allow for clients to simply ‘select’ which style of lighting they prefer. Clients are free to voice their preference. However, Skywing selects whether she will use Lighting Assistants or set up lights based on what style would be best for the shoot, so that Clients (YOU!!) get the best results.
What are the 'deliverables' I can expect as part of my photo shoot with Skywing?
Every package includes a set number of edited photos that you can expect to receive with your package. The edited photos are the deliverables and they will each come in a digital format (a JPEG or JPG file) sent to the point of contact/client’s email that is provided. If you want more photos, additional fees may apply, depending on your package with Skywing.
Skywing does not offer prints of her photos at this time.
Skywing took such great photos! There are so many I want edited, but my package only include X number of photos. Can I request for more to be edited?
Yes. Depending on your package however, an additional fee will be charged for each additional photo you want edited. Please reach out to Skywing for pricing specifics, as the price for additional photos will be linked to your package of choice.
I was part of a group that did a photo shoot with Skywing, but I wasn't the one providing payment. Can I get additional edited copies of photos not included in the shoot package?
Yes, all models within Skywing’s photos may request photos from shoots they have done with Skywing, regardless of if the were the designated client who provided payment for the shoot. However, additional fees for the photos may apply.
Can Skywing do any special effects edits on my photos?
Yes. However, special effects edits are not part of the “standard edits” which are included in the the packages listed above. (Standard edits include minor touch ups and basic lighting edits.) As such, for every photo in which a special effect edit is requested, a tailored, additional fee will apply, which will depend on the type of special effect being requested/commissioned.
I want my photos unedited (the RAWs). Is that possible?
No. Skywing does not offer RAW photos or ‘unedited photos’, as she does not consider her photos ‘complete’ at that stage of production. As such, they are not included in any packages Skywing offers.
Can I post the photos Skywing took of me online?
Typically, yes, so long as you credit Skywing and link back to her website or her account on the social platform you wish to post the photos on. However, this is completely dependent on the contract that you sign prior to your session with Skywing. Be sure to ask prior to the day of your shoot to ensure this is the case.
Can I sell prints of the photos Skywing took?
Typically, no. However, this is completely dependent on the contract you sign with Skywing. Prior to the day of your session with Skywing, if this is important to you, please bring it up during the discussion of logistics to see if we can make this possible.
Please note that this would mean the development of a special package for you, which would have different prices and regulations to those listed above.
