Sasha Blouse Costume Analysis

“It’s alright if you’re weak. There are people who will come rescue you.”
-Sasha Blouse
Hey all!
I thought I’d do something different today and start writing a bit more about some my favorite cosplays that I’ve done and breaking down how they came to be. You’d like that right? Right. 😉 And just cause I love cosplaying as her, I thought I’d start with the spunky Sasha Blouse! Sasha is my favorite female cosplay I’ve done thus far from “Attack on Titan“. Granted, the only other female I’ve done was Mikasa, but I do have… one more on my mind. 😉 Though I wasn’t really drawn to Sasha’s character in the Season 1 arcs, the Season 2 arc, which I read first in the manga, really won me over when it came to liking her. (Of course Isayama would do that. Isayama, why???)
So… just who is Sasha?
Character Summary:
Originally from a hunting group in the village of Dauper, Sasha gained the nickname “Potato Girl” due to her tendency to hoarding food getting her into trouble when she ate a hot potato during the 104 Training Cops’ first day of drills. She retains an excellent 6th sense of sorts and highly accurate instincts when it comes to both hunting and scouting in the field. Upon joining the Survey Corps, Sasha proved to be a valuable asset to the group with a solid desire to help the weak as well as prove her worth amongst her comrades.
Unlike many of the other characters, to me, the thing that makes Sasha unique is that she IS that normal person dragged into war. She didn’t have a family member killed. She wasn’t a city person. Sasha was just a citizen and a very normal one at that. Even more so, she was a normal young woman. She was full of self doubts and as a result, attempts to bury what she thought society might see as unsightly.
The best thing I found though was that as her arc progressed, she began to embrace her whole self. She finds that even if it wasn’t what she thought it should be, it was still valuable. And that’s a great message – that no matter who you are or where you come from or what your skills are, you have value.
That said, let’s talk about creating this cosplay of Sasha!
“Why do I remember, now of all times, about silly, pointless days of the past? It’s all… I can think of…”

Construction on Sasha Blouse:
Goodness, I love uniforms – when I can reuse them, haha. Sasha was pretty much a switch of Mikasa’s hairstyle and make up (also, no scarf thankfully). For Sasha, I got a new wig and styled it to allow for a ponytail and then I changed her make up from something more striking to a softer look. In this way, Sasha was much easier than Mikasa. And of course, whenever I cosplay her, I grab a potato. Or bread…. just something because if I don’t, I always get asked ‘Where’s your potato?!’ and it feels like the costume isn’t complete, lol. But yeah, that’s about it!

“Hey, listen up. You’ll be fine. Keep following this path. Run as far as you can. I promise someone will be there to help you. You might not find them right away. But still, keep running until you do! Now go! Run! Get Runnin’!”
Personal Thoughts:
Though Sasha provides quite a bit of comic relief, something that I love about her (along with Connie and a few others) is that even though they can provide good laughs on occasion, they are all well developed and have strong backstories. Sasha’s in particular I enjoy because her behavior seems very contradictory upon first glance, though upon closer inspection, it’s not contradictory at all. She’s sets herself apart from others due to her family’s background and doesn’t tend to easily trust people. But when she’s around others, she’s very formal and polite, as though ashamed of where she comes from and worried about what others will think of her. Why would she want others to think well of her if she doesn’t trust them? Why would it matter?
It doesn’t seem to add up, until you realize that Sasha wants to be able to rely on people and wants to be relied on by others. In other words, she wants to believe in humanity, even if she is slow to admit it sometimes. Add that to the fact that she’s got killer instincts and is freakin’ amazing with a bow and arrow, and Sasha quickly became one of my favorite characters in the “Attack on Titan” universe.
Final Musings:
Goodness I’d love to have an excuse to cosplay as Sasha again. Perhaps for a huge group one day. But for now, I’m just content that I got to cosplay as her. She’s a wonderful character.
I’ll do my best to sprinkle in more of these costume analysis articles into my blog posts in the future, so do keep an eye out for those! (I do enjoy dissecting how I make these after all!) And perhaps they can be useful to you as you go about creating your own cosplays too. 😉 So until next time~~ ^_^
Much love,
