Event Recap: Awesome Con 2024
By Skywing Knights // November 21, 2024
Indeed, I did go to Awesome Con 2024. my friends! It was unexpected, but EXTREMELY memorable because guys – it was one of my little sister’s first convention experience! (Oh they grow up so fast!!)
And that was actually the catalyst that got me to go. She wanted to meet a few celebrities from the Percy Jackson franchise with a friend. Of course, I had to offer to meet them there in the late afternoon and bring them home when they were done. Nothing like being the adult on premise to make you feel old. XD
In any event, I got there later in the day. When I did, I found her and her friend sitting against a wall looking exhausted. For the event, I decided to debut my first Rei Todoroki cosplay of My Hero Academia (Boku no Hero Academia – 僕のヒーローアカデミア) (I now have a second one lol). This one was the outfit in which she burned Shoto on accident out of terror for Enji. I loved being the trauma inducer at the convention in that sense. There were a lot of yells of “WHY!?”s that I received while there. Though to be fair, I was not Nina Tucker from FMA, so it could have been much worse…. :3
While there, I had also hoped to surprise my Dabi with a visit from his mother. But unfortunately my wayward son was unable to make it. I did get a few shots of the sirens at the SySy booth, which was fun to see though. Before we all called it a day and headed back, I was also fortunate enough to get an autograph from “The Long Halloween” writer Jeph Loeb. I ended up buying a new copy of the book. (I knew that my copy at home was falling out of the book’s binding.)
In my high school years, I read that book so much. It is definitely a testament to the power of reading literature as a form of therapy and a way to amplify your mind. So I was very happy to meet Jeph and speak to one of the writers (Marv Wolfman was another) that made my high school years so much better than they would have been without comics.
After that, we ended up going to Chick Fil A so I could get my sister and her friend food (I think they needed it!), before I took them both home. So, Awesome Con 2024 wasn’t a planned convention for me this year, I was so overjoyed that it was one (and that my sister enjoyed herself while there!).
Till next time everyone,
